1585 - Foundations of Mysticism - Pseudo-Dionysius
Without doubt, Dionysius the Areopagite is the most foundational of all western mystics. Works such as On the Divine Names, On the Celestial Hierarchy and On Mystical Theology set the tone for all subsequent Christian and occult mysticism. His writings emphasized the unknowability of God and the importance of apophatic (negative) theology, which approaches the divine through negation and transcendence. These works are of profound importance, bound here in a pleasing quarto from 1585. A wonderful chance to own a piece of Neoplatonic and Mystical history. This volume was most recently in the library of Roberto Severino, a professor at Georgetown University and Chairman of the Italian Department.
