This book, a Physical-Magical-Medical Introduction, is a rare volume only found in the British Library and Oxford's Bodleian - it has not been seen in Auction records since the 1970's. Etzlerus was a German author and probable physician who lived in the 17th century and was interested in the intersection of medicine, astrology, magic, and natural philosophy. This book explores the connections between the celestial world (planets, stars) and the terrestrial world (plants, animals, the human body). It discusses the concept of "signatures," which suggests that natural objects carry markings that indicate their medicinal or magical properties. Etzlerus also argues that astrological influences affect health, disease, and the effectiveness of treatments. Venereal disease, for example, is associated with the movements and position of the planet Venus, while lunacy is associated with the Moon. The book also discusses herbs, animals and how people born under specific astrological signs exhibit characteristic traits.

The volume is also of interest because it was previously owned by Thorwald Dethlefsen, a German esoteric author, psychotherapist, and proponent of alternative medicine who was most famous for writing the book “Illness As A Path.” Dethlefsen believed that illnesses have a psychological and spiritual root cause. He was also a strong proponent of reincarnation and the symbolic interpretation of illness. He died in 2010.
