1638 - Mystic Saint Rose of Viterbo

$780.00

Here are a couple of things you need to know about Saint Rose of Viterbo. She is said to have raised her own aunt from the dead. She stood for three hours in the midst of a burning pyre and then walked out, unscathed. When preaching in front of especially large crowds, she was said to  levitate, rising many feet above the ground.

Rose was born probably around 1233 and died in 1251. She started preaching on the streets of Viterbo when she was ten or twelve, accounts differ. She was immensely charismatic and lived mostly in solitude, emerging only to utter intense prophecies or to do battle with sorceresses in nearby towns.

This book is a biography and history of Saint Rose and her miracles published in the early 17th century. The book is of special note given that it was owned by the archbishop of Cincinnati, whose bookplate and signature can be found on the inside cover and title page.

1638 Saint Rose of Viterbo: Per il Diotallevi,. First Edition, First Printing. Vellum. Fair. 294p plus index. Ex-library. A hardcover book with a vellum spine and marbled boards.
