1652 - Important Work of Medical Astrology

$1,200.00

Second edition of Argoli's work on astrological medicine, divided into two books.  The first covers the doctrine of critical days in the treatment of the quartan and tertian fevers now known as Malaria from the point of view of astrological diagnosis and treatment. The second provides "prognostica" that allows an astrologer to tell whether a disease would be curable, long, or chronic, based on observations made by the ancients. Argoli often refers to the works of Galen and Hippocrates and was among the first doctors to apply Harvey's discovery of blood circulation to astrological medicine. Indeed, he applies Hermetic reasoning to the circulation of blood in the microcosm of the body as a mirror of the macrocosm of the circulation of the heavenly bodies. An important volume in the history of medicine and astrology.

Professor of mathematics in Rome, Argoli also proposed a geo-heliocentric system where Mercury and Venus revolve around the Sun while the other planets (and the Sun) revolve around the Earth, rotating on its own axis.
