This is a wonderful collection of stories and biographies of some of the most important and astounding women mystics of all time. Building a library that includes important works from the mystics, especially the great women mystics of the Western Christian tradition, can be challenging. Unless, of course, you have unlimited funds and can purchase rare manuscripts often existing in but a few copies. Also, there is the whole misogyny thing. The writings of women mystics, sadly and infuriatingly,  weren’t published nearly as often as the writings of the men. That’s why, as a collector, you have to broaden your scope. The thoughts and teachings of many of the great women mystics were often shared in collections just like this one. It was often in biographies and in tales and hagiographies and stories of the saints that people learned about the lives and teachings and experiences of incredible women like Catherina of Genoa, Julian of Norwich, Angela of Foligno and many others.
